Katelyn Barney is a Senior Lecturer in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit at The University of Queensland.

She is the Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Coordinator for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and teaches courses in collaboration with Indigenous staff and community members in relation to Indigenous music making and Indigenous studies. She is also an Australian Learning and Teaching Fellow.

Her research focuses on facilitating pathways from undergraduate study to HDR for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, collaborative music research with Indigenous performers, and teaching and learning approaches in Indigenous Australian studies.

She is the Managing Editor of the Australian Journal of Indigenous Education and edited the book Collaborative Ethnomusicology: New Approaches to Research between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
