National Reconciliation Week - Occupation: Native Screening and Q&A Panel
As part of this year’s 2019 National Reconciliation Week, we would like to invite all of our student's and staff from St Lucia, Gatton and Herston, to the screening of ‘Occupation: Native’, followed by a special guest Q&A panel.
The ATSIS Unit have organised the screening to commemorate this year’s theme ‘Grounded in Truth – Walk Together with Courage', which seeks to explore truth around the telling of Australian history, so that we can walk together, grounded in truth an into a reconciled future with courage.
Please join us in the Gallery of the UQ Art Museum on Thursday 30th May from 12pm-1:00pm for the documentary screening and from 1-1:30pm for our special guest panel afterwards.
Documentary Synopsis: “In this country, the Aboriginal story is often buried deep beneath the accepted 247-year-old Australian historical narrative. It’s not that the Australian story is wrong, it’s just that it’s a wee bit one sided. Getting all historical, Aboriginal filmmaker Trisha Morton-Thomas, bites back at Australian History”.
