Your knowledge and expertise is critical as we are seeking a broad discussion with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academics to develop the domain and to consider Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recognition pathways through a Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship.

The Pathways to Expertise in Teaching and Learning (PETL) project intends to support staff to identify and engage with relevant professional learning activities. These activities include formal and informal activities offered by Schools, Faculties, ITaLI and other organisations outside of UQ. The activities are able to be stacked into suites or micro-credentials and are designed to recognise personal interests, experience levels and changes in career journeys across a career path.

PETL is underpinned by the Teaching Expertise Framework, a set of core learning outcomes across a number of domains of teaching and learning. We attempted to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges and practices across the domains, but it is clear that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practice is a domain in itself.

There is also a notion that developmental pathways to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural learning may well be suited to supporting two pathways to HEA Fellowship that recognises building expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledges into all facets of UQ life. The potential for developing two recognition pathways – one for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and one for non-Indigenous peoples will also be explored in this forum.
