Keynote presentation: Professor Marcia Langton AM

"As an Aboriginal academic with responsibilities to contribute to human knowledge, and as a university lecturer and researcher, it is my long time conclusion that the inclusion of Indigenous knowledge in our curricula, and teaching and learning approaches is a formal academic duty and one for which I have relevant capabilities. My efforts in this regard are showing some beneficial outcomes although too much of my time has been wasted by those who resist the relevance of Indigenous knowledge to our present domestic and global challenges. The contribution of Indigenous knowledge systems to world knowledge has been well understood by a small but growing community of researchers for several decades, especially following the ratification of the Convention of Biological Diversity. Article 8 (j) of that Convention requires Member States to report on their efforts to maintain and protect Indigenous and local knowledge systems, innovations and practices. In this lecture, I want to share with you my own approach and the successes so far."  – Professor Marcia Langton AM.
