ATSIS Unit celebrates 1 year on social media.

15 October 2018

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit is celebrating 1 year on social media with its Youtube, Facebook Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Over the past year Facebook has posted several stories based on student success and informed students about activities and events hosted by the ATSIS Unit and The University of Queensland. This included the successful Baker Boy concert for NAIDOC Week.

Instagram has been busy with photos from many events such as the Junior Murri Rugby League carnival hosted by UQ and the great Book Swap where donations were raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The ATSIS Unit's YouTube account has been busy posting stories from this year’s Indigenous University Games in Sydney (hosted by Macquarie University). The University of Queensland finished in the top ten for the first time since the Nationals began in 1996, and the Final for the Volleyball was posted in full for the first time.

Twitter has been successful for the ATSIS Unit as this social media account is followed by prominent and successful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people, organisations and educational Institutions such as QUT, Griffith University and UNSW.

Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit, Mr Shane Drahm said the ATSIS Unit’s social media accounts turning 1 is a great milestone. "These accounts have been a great digital voice for the Unit to engage with staff, students and the wider community to inform them of events and news," he added.
