17 January 2018

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Unit has started the first InspireU Camps for 2018.

The Junior STEM and Senior Engineering Camps began on Sunday with Traditional Games, camp expectations and a reflective piece before the week long camp at St Leo’s College.

43 students from as far as the Torres Straits to Northern New South Wales have come together for these camps said the Manager for Outreach and Engagement Mr Sid Domic.

“25 Junior STEM students from years 9 and 10 will be exposed to sessions on The University of Queensland St Lucia campus and will have a day trip to the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) Berghofer Medical Research Institute, a tour of the Australian Infectious Diseases Centre and a Food Science Workshop.

“The other 18 Senior Engineering students will visit the Rio Tinto and Boeing Head Offices and participate in Robotics and hands on Aerospace Rocket activities,” said Mr Domic.

Both camps will end the week with a Gala Dinner hosted by The University of Queensland and students will receive Certificates for their participation in the InspireU Camps.
