InspireU camps announced for 2018

The Outreach and Engagement team in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (ATSIS) Unit has announced dates for the Senior Engineering and Junior STEM camps for 2018.

The Senior Engineering and Junior STEM camps will both run from Sunday the 14th through to Friday 19th of January at The University of Queensland St Lucia campus.

InspireU Senior Engineering is a camp provided specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, male and female, in Year 11 and 12 in 2018 that have an interest in studying Engineering.

While the Junior STEM Engineering camp is specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, male and female, in Year 9 and 10 in 2018.

Students take part in a range of activities designed to provide a practical insight into Engineering and the many opportunities for study and careers in this industry.

Accommodation is supervised, with separate accommodation for female and male students.

Team Leader for Outreach and Engagement Mr Sid Domic said the camps are a valuable resource and give exposure to different study disciplines.

“Students are exposed to lectures, active workshops and industry tours with Boeing and Rio Tinto.

“The STEM students take part in a range of activities designed to provide a practical insight into health sciences and the many opportunities for study and careers in this industry,” said Mr Domic.

Applications close at 5.00pm 1st December 2017.
